| | Biography:
Known for her stunningly rich and textural paintings, Parisian-born Wellington artist Alex DiMercurio is no stranger to the New Zealand public.
From early beginnings as an art student she had paintings exhibited at The Dowse gallery - now The New Dowse - in Lower Hutt, 1990.
Alex now has paintings in private collections throughout New Zealand, France and Australia, and her paintings feature in the 2010 New Zealand Artfind calendar. Her work has also recently been selected as finalist for several national Awards, including a touring award exhibition.
Alex is influenced by her reverence of nature, observations of the world around her and emotion to explore themes and narrate them visually.
Fascinated by exploring abstraction through movement, Alex’s paintings draw on the reduction of complexity to enhance a representational essence of scenery.
She manipulates composition to achieve strong contrasting works imbued with light, colour and potency with a textural three-dimensional painterly technique that is uniquely her own.
Her paintings range from stylized, bold and radiant landscapes, textured treescapes, provokative portraits, to layered abstracts.
